How it is

Writer: Robyn SmithRobyn Smith

You’re not going to see pictures of my client on her sacred, private journey. I respect her privacy, her vulnerability, and her right to journey by herself. She is an introvert and needs to journey alone. So, yes, you’ll see what we’re doing, but you’re not going to see her.

Warning: Sadly, mostly what you see of Bali on social media is "Instagrammable!" Beautiful one minute, perfect the next. That is not my world. Yes, Bali is beautiful. Yes, she is sacred. But she is fucking intense, hot and sweaty, noisy, smelly. The traffic is horrendous. Yep, it is an attack on all your senses. She is real and raw, yet balanced. Let me support you to find your own balance. I have many years of experience supporting people here, organizing everything for them, supporting them in this intense land, helping them sink down the layers.

Don’t come on one of my retreats expecting to eat Western food. I don’t understand why people go overseas and eat food from their own country or food that’s familiar to them. To really experience a culture, you need to eat that culture's food. Indonesian/Balinese food is amazing. It’s not always spicy, but it’s nurturing, filling, and healing. It warms you up and cools you down, wakes you up and puts you to sleep, and loves you up on the inside. You will experience it all, from breakfast snacks, visiting local restaurants, eating street food, eating late-night food, going to beautiful or centric Balinese/Indonesian restaurants, and traditional restaurants. Your taste buds will not be the same; they will be awakened and inspired by all the incredible flavors and textures here.

Did you know that we also serve handmade Jamu on our retreat? Jamu is the local herbal elixir, made with herbs like turmeric, great for general health, detoxing, and healing support. Our Ibu makes it by mortar and pestle every day, so it’s always fresh.

It’s so beautiful being close to this family and watching the kids grow up. Fajar is 22 now and very entrepreneurial. He carved this lion for a wedding out of polystyrene foam! He also does fruit carving and carves portraits into leaves.
