Hair crème bath

One of my favourite things to do when I visit Bali is to go to a day spa and treat myself to a hair creme bath.

It’s basically getting your hair not just washed but massaged with a special creme. Before you say that it’s too simple and not worthy to be a Bali retreats for women must-do, imagine this: walking the streets of Bali, the hot weather making you feel all icky, tired, and drenched in sweat and then getting the most wonderful refreshing hair treatment. That’s the proper way to cool down.

The first part of the creme bath is washing the hair in cold water. Very, very refreshing given Indonesia’s humid weather. Then your hair gets shampooed with deep massage that can totally relax you to sleep. After a rinse, conditioner is applied again using wonderful massage before your head is wrapped in a towel.

The next step is done in a salon chair. Your hair is combed into sections while the aloe vera juice is rubbed on your scalp. Strong thumb pressure is applied on your head to stimulate the blood flow in your scalp. It’s like the ladies at the spa are phrenologists examining the lumps and bumps of our skulls. Some areas may be painful, but believe me, it’s worth it.

Next, crushed avocado flesh is applied. The oils in avocados are so good in keeping the hair healthy and shiny. Then for 20-minutes, a steamed towel is wrapped around your head to seal in the moisture.

While waiting for the avocado to work its magic, you are given a shoulder, arms, and back massage. You just might find yourself falling asleep in your chair. It’s that good. And just when you’re drifting off to sleep, it’s back to the basin to wash out the aloe vera and avocado in your hair. The cool water snaps you back to reality.

Hair freshly washed, super conditioned, and towel dried to perfection. It’s a sublime treatment I recommend to all my guests on all my tours.
